Daily Update: 10-8-14

Today was a long day of sitting in traffic and getting rerouted. I went from Sparks, NV to Oakland, CA with a load of boxes. The traffic in Sacramento and the bay area was terrible! After I delivered the boxes in Oakland, I deadheaded to Lodi, CA to grab a load of wine that delivers in Sparks tomorrow morning. On my way back, I saw smoke in the mountains, and the highway info signs said the freeway was closed and had to follow a detour. The detour is a small mountain road with steep grades and sharp curves. It's not my favorite route. Especially, with a heavy load. The detour took up the rest and then some of my available hours to drive. If I-80 would have been open, I'd have an hour left. The thing that gets me, is that only the Eastbound side was closed, but the Westbound side was wide open. Strange... Anyways, I was told to drop the wine load in the yard and grab a paper plate load that's sitting in the yard going to the Portland, OR area for Friday morning delivery at 6am. So, I'm all hooked up to the new load and will pull out first thing around sunrise.
