Forced Resignation...Kinda

After almost five (5) years with Knight Transportation, second time around with them, I was forced to resign...

Ruby Jean

Last thursday (7-14-16) my dispatcher called and said that he and the terminal manager had to talk with me. I went in and was ambushed! My dispatcher, terminal manager and the safety guy were saying how I use excessive fuel, idle too much, not run enough miles and go out of route too much. They even showed me graphs on where I am compared to my peers. I'm also in the top 5% of worst employees at Knight Transportation.

About the idling thing...

I explained to them that in late May the batteries were mostly dead and had to idle. Then in early June the starter went out, with Ruby needing a pull start. Break down told me to not shut her off until I get in the shop...which was about a week for each event. The terminal manager claimed he knew nothing of this. The dispatcher was acting squirrelly about this, because he never told the terminal manager, and throwing me under the bus about every little thing. BUT when he's away from the terminal manager, he acts like he's my best friend! WTF!!  Sidewinder...

About the out of route thing...

I take slightly longer routes to avoid traffic in heavy traffic areas and route around big storms in the winter. They weren't having any of that either. They say I'm supposed to follow the exact route they give me. If I did that I would be late for loads.

About the shortage of miles...

It's hard to run miles when they don't give many. They didn't want to hear that either. I told them I have a ledger and would get it. They didn't want to see it.

They said that they "went to bat for me", as some big shot from the main yard (Phoenix, Arizona) wanted me fired. I had my name badge in hand and asked it they wanted it. They said it's up to me. They continued to berate me about fuel. They told me they are giving me a new truck and three (3) weeks to get my numbers up and keep them up. If not, I'm fired.

After thinking about it over the weekend, and moving out of Ruby on Saturday I decided to quit. The whole time with Knight has been one big joke with no punchline. Yesterday (7-18-16) I went into the office and turned in my name badge and fuel card. They acted mad about, but I don't care.

Now I'm looking for a new job. I have some very promising prospects driving and non driving! I am not going over the road again, because Christina is pregnant and I need to be around.

Please tell me your resignation story...

Cliff
